Cloudy, with temperatures in the high 60s on Thursday morning in the Triad

PIEDMON TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — There is a stationary front cutting through KY, TN, AR, and MS today, producing widespread severe weather for the third day in a row.  We are located south of that front, in a very warm, humid airmass.  While we won’t be dealing with severe weather today, we will have mostly cloudy skies.  Highs will be near 80°.

Tonight, there will be a few hours of partly cloudy skies before clouds return for the morning commute.  Lows will be in the mid-60s.

Near-record warmth is ahead for Friday and Saturday!  We will have partly cloudy skies on both days, with highs around 86° on Friday and 87° on Saturday. The record high for Friday is 86° (set in 1934), and for Saturday is 87° (set in 1942), so we may have new records in the almanac books.

The front to our northwest will finally start to move eastward on Sunday, bringing an 80% chance of rain during the day and a 95% chance of rain overnight. There may be some isolated thunderstorms, but we are not expecting a severe weather threat to disrupt activities. The highs will be in the lower 80s. Monday will be cooler, with highs in the mid-60s, and we’ll continue to have a 70% chance of showers.

Dramatically chillier weather is on the way for the middle of the work week, and it could be a threat to our gardens. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we will have sunny skies to enjoy, but we’ll have to pull out some cold weather clothing as highs stay in the mid- to upper-50s.  Tuesday night, plan to cover any newly established plants in your garden because lows will be near freezing by Wednesday morning!
