SOUTHEASTERN NC — Downgraded to a tropical storm, Debby is set to bring anywhere from 16 to 20 inches of rain to the Cape Fear this week.

Due to potential extreme flooding, wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour and storm surge, multiple closings have been announced.
Here is what to expect across the tri-county region — check back for updates:
New Hanover County
CFCC’s Wilson Center will be closed on Wednesday, Aug. 7, and Thursday, Aug. 8.
Cape Fear Academy will close Wednesday, Aug. 7 and Aug. 8 and all athletic and extracurricular activities are canceled. A decision will be made on Thursday afternoon to determine if the school will be open on Friday, August 9th.Â
Cape Fear Community College is canceling classes for Wednesday, Aug. 7, and Thursday, Aug. 8, at all campus facilities. The Bonnie Sanders Burney Child Development Center will also be closed on these dates. CFCC staff will be available to students via phone and email.
Carolina Beach is canceling its weekly events: Family Night, Bingo, and Boardwalk Blast, including live music and fireworks. Freeman Park will also close on Aug. 7 at 5 p.m. and remain so until storm effects have ceased. It also is suspending paid parking from 5 p.m. on Aug. 6 through 9 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 9.
Carolina Beach facilities, including the pump-out station, public restrooms and transient slips/recreational traffic, are closed until further notice.
City of Wilmington pools are closed Wednesday and Thursday Aug. 7-8. It includes Legion Stadium, Robert Strange Park and Northside Park.
Concert at Airlie Gardens will be canceled Friday, Aug. 9.
The Greensky Bluegrass concert at Greenfield Lake Amphitheater originally scheduled for Aug. 7 has been rescheduled to Sept. 18.
New Hanover County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Aug. 7, and Thursday, Aug. 8.
- Specialty High Schools WECHS, SEA-Tech, and Isaac Bear: The start date for specialty high schools will be delayed until school resumes. Families will receive a call from their principal about the new start date.
- Remote Learning: Schools that are already in session — Codington, Eaton, Snipes, Freeman and Lake Forest — will shift to remote learning for Wednesday and Thursday. Teachers will provide instructions and resources so that students can continue their learning from home.
NHC Schools are also rescheduling summer graduation to Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. at Snipes Academy of Arts & Design.
North Carolina Aquarium will close Wednesday, Aug. 7. Animal care teams and operational staff will be onsite. Visitors who had reservations will be able to reschedule their visit or receive reimbursement.
The U.S.S. North Carolina will close Wednesday, Aug. 7, and Thursday, Aug. 8.
Wave Transit will delay service on Thursday, Aug. 8. Fixed-route, RideMICRO, and DART will begin at 7 a.m. instead of 6 a.m. Service impacts are subject to change if conditions worsen. .
Wilmington Police Department’s National Night Out will will be postponed and rescheduled to Tuesday, Oct. 1, at The Pointe 14, 2223 Blockbuster Rd.
YWCA Lower Cape Fear operations will be closed on Wednesday, Aug. 7, and Thursday, Aug. 8.
Brunswick County
Brunswick Community College closed late morning Tuesday and will remain shuttered on Wednesday and Thursday. Classes will be remote as possible and the student orientation planned for Thursday is rescheduled to Wednesday, Aug. 14.
Brunswick County Courthouse will be closed Thursday, Aug. 8. All District and Superior Court has been cancelled and cases rescheduled, with notice of new court dates mailed to the address on file. The alternate filing location will be at the Magistrate’s Office located in the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office at 70 Stamp Act Dr. in Bolivia.
Brunswick County Parks & Recreation activities are canceled through Sunday, Aug. 11. All Brunswick County park locations will remain open on regular schedules at this time.Â
Brunswick County government facilities will work on a delayed schedule on Thursday, Aug. 8, including government offices, libraries, parks, and others to open at 10:30 a.m.
The free Brunswick County Health and Wellness Fair scheduled for Aug. 9 has been rescheduled to Friday, Sept. 6, 10:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., at the Government Center, featuring 30 local businesses offering health demonstrations, screenings, activities and more.
Brunswick County Schools will be closed on Wednesday, Aug. 7, and Thursday, Aug. 8.
- Brunswick County Early College High School will operate on a remote learning schedule on Aug. 7 and 8. Brunswick County Schools will continue to monitor road and facility conditions over the week. If conditions improve, Brunswick County Early College High School and all district student activities will operate on a normal schedule on Friday, Aug. 9, to be communicated to all stakeholders no later than 3 p.m. on Aug. 8.
- The Beginning Teacher Orientation will be held virtually on Thursday, Aug. 8. Friday, Aug. 9 will remain an optional workday for all other district staff.
Brunswick Transit System will not run operations on Wednesday, Aug. 7, or Thursday, Aug. 8.
The Fort Johnston Museum – Southport Visitor’s Center is closed through Saturday, Aug. 10.
Town of Holden Beach has canceled all events and programs.
Oak Island town facilities will close Wednesday, Aug. 7, and Thursday, Aug. 8:
- Oak Island Pier
- Oak Island Splashpad
- Recreation Center
- Nature Center
- Ocean Education
- Community Center
- 801 Ocean Event Center
Oak Island’s Thursday night concert has been postponed until Aug. 29.
Sunset Beach Town Hall will remain closed on Thursday, Aug. 8. During this time, the Police Department will not have walk in lobby availability. Town Hall will reopen with normal hours of operations on Friday, Aug. 9, 8 a.m.
Town of Sunset Beach has canceled its weekly Market in the Park. Its Wednesday concert featuring Band on Fire will be rescheduled to Wednesday, Sept. 4.
Village at Bald Head Island will close Village Hall offices and Island Package Center & Post Office on Aug. 7 and 9; village staff will work remotely.
Pender County
Moores Creek National Battlefield will be closed until Friday. The national historic grounds are prone to flooding and will be evaluated on Saturday as to when it can reopen.
Pender County Schools will be close all facilities and schools at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. This includes all after-school activities and athletic events. Schools will remain closed Wednesday, Aug. 7, and Thursday, Aug. 8, but virtual instruction will exist:
- Students in grades 3-8 at Penderlea will be provided with learning materials on Tuesday, Aug. 6. They will participate in remote learning through Google Classroom, while students in grades 9-13 at Pender Early College will also participate in remote learning through Canvas.
Pender County government offices are closed Thursday, Aug. 8.
