CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A new record high temperature was recorded in Charlotte on Tuesday.
A temperature of 79 degrees was recorded at 2 p.m. at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. This beats out the previous record of 76 degrees, which has stood since 1927. The normal afternoon high temperature this time of year is 54 degrees.
With a few more hours of daylight remaining, it is possible the temperature could continue to rise.
Weather observation equipment at the airport is where official weather records are kept for the entire city of Charlotte. Temperatures are measured inside a protective covering, where they are shaded from direct sunlight.
Tuesday’s record-high temperatures will give way to cloudier and cooler weather on Wednesday. Temperatures were expected to return to the 70s by the weekend.
