Bundle up! Temperatures have dropped below freezing across the Piedmont this morning. It’s going to be a beautiful day with sunny skies all day long. Highs are going to make it to the mid-40s by mid-afternoon. Â
We will have a clear evening to enjoy with some stargazing, but as the sun rises tomorrow morning, there will be more clouds rolling in. Lows will be in the upper-20s.
Friday will be partly cloudy with highs in the upper-40s. A cold front is forecast to cross the state Friday evening, ushering in an icy blast of cold air for the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday mornings, lows will be in the lower-20s. Highs will be in the upper-30s on Saturday with sunny skies, then lower-40s on Sunday with increasing clouds.
Sunday night, a new system will be closing in on the Carolinas. As showers begin to develop, temperatures may be close enough to freezing to produce some freezing rain, particularly in the northwestern Piedmont. While this could cause bridges and overpasses to be slick, it will likely be before the morning commute gets underway. Temperatures will warm above freezing soon after precipitation begins, so we’re expecting any frozen weather to change over pretty quickly to a cold rain. Showers will continue through the morning on Monday, then taper off midday. The chance of rain is 80% and highs will be in the lower-40s.
Behind this system, another blast of Arctic air will be surging across the East Coast. Highs on Tuesday and Wednesday are going to stay in the upper-30s under sunny skies. Morning lows are likely to be in the lower-to-mid-20s.
