BRUNSWICK COUNTY —  Brunswick County Schools will close its campuses on Friday due to the anticipated impact of an approaching storm.

The district will be closing its campuses for parents and staff on Friday, September 27, due to the threat of inclement weather associated with Hurricane Helene, as announced on Wednesday.

According to district spokesperson Gordon Burnette, all schools will be closed, and all sporting events will be postponed, as the hurricane is expected to impact the tri-county region late Thursday and into Friday.

Burnette also stated that staff members will have the option to work from home—provided they submit a work log—come into the office, or take appropriate leave. Following last week’s unnamed storm, the district received criticism for offering staff an optional workday without remote options, which left 69 employees stranded at district facilities. While the plan was to operate all 20 schools remotely for students and staff until the end of the week, Burnette announced on Monday the reopening of 14 schools for in-person instruction for the remainder of the week.

According to the release, staff “have been emailed and called with specific information.”
