Autopsy reveals a man died from malnutrition in his mother's care

The cause of death was ruled as malnutrition due to neglect.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — An autopsy report revealed new details in the death of a disabled man in Winston-Salem.

Michael Parks Jr., 29, died at his home in September 2023.

His mother, Pamela Parks was charged with involuntary manslaughter and neglect of a disabled adult.

The autopsy said Michael Parks Jr. was abnormally thin and there was little food in the home. 

His BMI was a 9.1. to put this into perspective the CDC said anything under 18.5 is underweight. 

The cause of death was ruled as malnutrition due to neglect, according to the autopsy report.
