RICHMOND, Va., (CHARLOTTE SPORTS LIVE) — NASCAR Cup Series racing is back after a two-week break and back in Richmond for the second time in 2024.
For this race, NASCAR is implementing a tire option, just like they did at the All-Star race in North Wilkesboro this year.
The short track has 12 degrees of banking in the turns and zero degrees on the straightaways. Drivers face a unique challenge here where the track offers little to no grip.
Drivers will race 400 laps over the 0.75-mile asphalt track to total 300 miles on a “D”-shaped oval.
Kyle Busch has won six times at this track, more than any other active driver. However, Denny Hamlin and Martin Truex Jr. can’t be counted out, as they have five and three wins respectively.
Tactical racing is important in Richmond. Only 18 percent of pole winners go on to take the checkered flag, with $7.9 million on the line.
Sunday’s race at Richmond Raceway in Virginia starts at 6 p.m.
