PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — A massive arctic cold front is moving through North Carolina this evening and all of the eastern United States.
Winds will be picking up as the front pushes through and temperatures will be dropping through the 40s, 30s and 20s, before settling into the upper teens tonight.
Monday will be the first day of this cold blast with highs only in the 20s for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
Wind chills Monday morning could be as low as 5 degrees so prepare yourself before going out. Lows Monday night and Tuesday night will be near 12 at Piedmont Triad International Airport, where our records are kept.
Wednesday night is expected to be near 10 or 11 degrees overnight. There is still a chance we could see some wintry weather Tuesday evening and into Tuesday night.
Most of the computer models are now agreeing to keep the low pressure off the coast far enough where the Piedmont Triad could remain dry during this period. There is still a 20% to 25% chance there could be snow along Montgomery, Randolph, and Chatham counties Tuesday night.
If the low-pressure system comes further inland, there could also be some frozen weather in Alamance, Davidson and Guilford counties.
