PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — The leading edge of bitterly cold, Arctic air is barreling toward the Carolinas today.Â
We will have mostly cloudy skies and seasonable highs near 50° today, but as the cold air arrives around dinnertime, there may be a few showers popping up in the Piedmont. Skies are going to rapidly clear out tonight and stay sunny through the weekend. Â
Arctic high pressure, planted over New England, is going to pump frigid air down the East Coast. Highs are going to be in the mid-40s Saturday, then drop to the lower-20s Saturday night.Â
Sunday is the coldest day of the week with highs in the upper-30s! By Monday morning, temperatures will have plunged into the upper teens.
We will start next week with sunshine and highs near 40° on Monday. Clouds will increase Tuesday, as will temperatures, reaching 50° by Tuesday afternoon. Christmas Eve is going to be superb for Santa, as we are expecting partly cloudy skies with temperatures in the upper-30s.
Christmas Day is going to be mostly cloudy with highs near 50°. Hanukkah begins at sunset, and temperatures will be in the mid-40s.
A cold front will drop southward on Thursday, bringing a 30% chance of a few showers early in the day. Highs are going to be in the upper-40s.
