A very cold and windy Thursday morning in the Triad

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Get ready for cold, windy weather today and tomorrow!

Temperatures are starting in the lower-to-mid-30s this morning with light winds. As the day progresses, temperatures will warm up to around 53°, but winds will make it feel like the 40’s.  Winds are expected to increase this afternoon, with sustained winds between 15 and 20 mph, and wind gusts approaching 30 mph.  

Tonight, winds will diminish to between 4 and 8 mph, allowing temperatures to plunge below freezing.  A Freeze Watch will go into effect Friday morning, from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. as lows hit 31° in the Triad and mid-to-upper-20s in outlying communities.  

Friday will be windy and chillier, with highs near 50° and winds between 12 and 16 mph.

Though Saturday will be breezy, it won’t be as windy as the last days of the work week.  We will be able to enjoy mostly sunny skies on Saturday and Sunday with warmer weather in the forecast. Highs will be in the upper-50s Saturday and lower-60s by Sunday afternoon.

Thanksgiving week is going to bring a variety of conditions across the Piedmont.  As the week begins, we’ll be dry with highs in the mid-60s. 

Another storm system is going to churn across the country, bringing cooler, wetter weather here for the end of the week. Wednesday will cool down to the mid-50s, and rain is looking rather likely for Thanksgiving Day. With highs in the lower-50s.
