Wilmington Fire Department to host 9/11 ceremony

WILMINGTON — It will be the 23rd anniversary on the Twin Towers and Pentagon attacks that cost the lives of 3,000 Americans on Sept. 11, 2001, including multiple emergency personnel. The Wilmington Fire Department is planning its commemoration for Wednesday, Sept. 11. 

Each year, the department invites dignitaries, first responders, and community members to remember the 343 first-responders and others who perished that day, including the plane that crashed in rural Pennsylvania headed toward the nation’s capital, Washington D.C.

A keynote address will be given by Wilmington council member Luke Waddell and the WFD Honor Guard will raise the 9/11 Remembrance Flag.

The ceremony will take place at the Wilmington Fallen Firefighters Memorial located next to WFD Station 2 at Empie Park, 3403 Park Ave., starting at 9 a.m. A livestream of the event also will be available via the City of Wilmington’s Facebook page here.
