Former Summerfield Charter Academy teacher took secret photos of students, court documents allege

SUMMERFIELD, N.C. — Court documents are revealing more on a former Summerfield Charter Academy teacher accused of secret peeping and indecent liberties. 

Michael David Evans, 40, is set to appear in court on Tuesday. Guilford County Sheriff’s Office arrested him Saturday for eight counts of felony secret peeping and eight counts of felony indecent liberties with a student. 

According to a detective with the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office, Evans was seen on security footage extending his arm with his camera phone in hand to look up the skirts of students the detective said were 13 and 14 years old.

“We were appalled to learn of distributing allegations involving inappropriate conduct by a former employee,” Summerfield Charter Academy spokesperson Cory Olsen said. “The safety and well-being of our school community remains one of our highest priorities. While privacy rights and the ongoing police investigations limit the details I can share, what I can say is we are fully cooperating with the Guilford County Sheriff’s investigation.”

Evans had no prior criminal charges before his arrest. He taught eighth-grade social studies. 

Court documents allege Evans used his cell phone to take secret photos in the stairwell of four students for “arousing and gratifying the sexual desire.” 

Evans was placed in jail under a $200,000 secured bond. 

Deputies said the school is fully cooperating with the investigation.
