Inflation reaches lowest level in three years

WASHINGTON (NEXSTAR) – The economy takes center stage on the campaign trail this week. Former president Donald Trump gives a speech on his economic proposals Wednesday in North Carolina while Vice President Kamala Harris will also return to the swing state to lay out her plan on Friday. The events come as inflation reached its lowest level in more than three years.

“We have an interesting couple of months ahead of us,” said Trump.

Fresh off early voting in Florida’s primary Wednesday former president Donald Trump took on the economy.

“It’s gotten very bad under this group of people, with inflation, with the economy itself,” he added.

Wednesday’s new Labor Department report shows inflation reached its lowest level in more than three years, but Trump says the economy is still moving in the wrong direction.

“We’re in a failing nation, and we’ve become in many ways a third world nation,” said Trump.

Vice President Kamala Harris will lay out her economic plan Friday.

“While our economy is doing well by many measures, prices for everyday things like groceries are still too high,” said Harris.

Campaign officials say Harris’ speech will focus on lowering costs for middle-class families and taking on corporate price-gouging and building on the work they say she’s done with President Joe Biden.

“I told you we’d have a soft landing. We’re going to have a soft landing. My policies are working. Start writing it that way, okay?” Biden stated.

Trump’s running mate, Senator JD Vance, is not optimistic about the economy and blames Harris.

“She inflicted the American people with the worst affordability and inflation crisis in a generation,” said Vance.

Harris and President Biden will appear together for the first time Thursday since the president dropped out of the race.
