
NEW HANOVER COUNTY — The New Hanover Community Endowment today announced the awarding of 111 grants totaling $500,000 to nonprofit and community-serving organizations across New Hanover County.

This inaugural round of 2025 grantmaking includes 70 community grants — awards capped at $5,000 sourced and recommended by the Community Advisory Council — and and 41 capacity grants — grants for fiscal sponsors and innovation development. Each grant aims to support programs, projects, services, or initiatives that align with one or more of the Endowment’s pillars: education, social and health equity, community safety, and community development.
“These grants are more than just financial support, they are partnerships with the people
and organizations working every day to improve lives in our community,” said Sophie
Dagenais, vice president of programs and grants, in a press release. “From expanding access to essential services to seeding change, widening participation, and supporting organizational capacity, these grants are designed by community organizations to help
them promote health, education, opportunity and safety in New Hanover County.”
All grants were under $5,000, though some agencies received both a community and capacity grant. These, along with their total amounts, include:
- $8,798 for the Alliance for Cape Fear Trees
- $9,056 for the Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern NC
- $9,528 for the Cameron Art Museum
- $6,313 for the Domestic Violence Shelter and Services
- $9,056 for Education Without Walls
- $9,056 for Elderhaus
- $9,740 for Fostering Bridges Inc.
- $8,870 for Genesis Block
- $10,000 for Going Beyond the Pink
- $9,528 for Growing Resilience
- $9,528 for LINC
- $9,528 for Legal Aid
- $9,056 for The Carousel Center
- $9,348 for Union Missionary Baptist Church
- $9,422 for United Way of Cape Fear
- $10,000 for Veterans Creative Arts Program
- $9,110 for WHQR
- $8,673 for the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra
- $9,528 for Working Films
More than 300 applications were submitted in this highly competitive round. All
applications underwent a structured review and scoring process. Grant funds must be used by December 31, 2025, with final impact reports due in early 2026.
