PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — Scattered showers and storms continue through this evening and into the overnight hours. More widespread rain and storms are expected Saturday night into very early Sunday morning. Portions of the Triad are under a level 2 risk for severe weather, which means a few storms could be severe for damaging winds (60+ mph) or hail (1″+). Temperatures will vary widely this evening due to the scattered showers and storms, but generally, if it’s raining, temperatures will likely be in the 60s.Â
A slow-moving frontal system is what’s causing our rain and storms this weekend and it’ll be stalled out over the Piedmont Triad on Sunday, which could spark another chance for isolated showers and storms Sunday afternoon. We’ll start Sunday morning in the low 60s with mostly cloudy skies with afternoon temperatures in the mid 70s. We’ll see more sun into the afternoon but that’s also when isolated showers and storms will be possible. Most will remain under severe storm levels but a level 1 risk for severe weather is in place for any stronger storms that are able to form.Â
Mostly sunny skies on Monday with morning lows in the mid-50s. Afternoon highs reach the mid-70s. Thanks to the slow-moving front, we can’t rule out lingering stray showers so a 20% chance for rain remains in place. Most of the Piedmont Triad will stay dry if the front stalls out further to the east.Â
Dry and mostly sunny on Tuesday with morning lows in the low to mid 50s and afternoon temperatures reaching the mid 70s.
An upper-level low will remain in place into the second half of the week which will spark a few rounds of low rain chances across the Piedmont Triad. Depending on where the low-pressure system settles, our rain chances could be higher, but data is not in agreement on its placement. For that reason, just be prepared that we could see isolated to scattered showers from Wednesday through Saturday.Â
Skies will be mostly cloudy on Wednesday and Thursday with morning lows in the mid to upper 50s and afternoon highs in the mid to upper 70s. The chance for rain both days is 30%.
A mix of sun and clouds with isolated to scattered showers remains in the forecast for Friday and Saturday. Temperatures will be in the upper 50s Friday morning with highs reaching the low 70s. Temperatures will be cooler on Saturday with morning lows in the low 50s and highs in the upper 60s. The chance for rain Friday and Saturday is 40%.
