CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The month of April in Charlotte will finish as the warmest April on record, with records dating back to 1878.

This April felt more like May and June compared to actual April. High temperatures reached the 80s twelve times, a feat more typical for the month of May.

The previous warmest April was 2017. This year’s record, on average, beats out the old record by over a half degree. Monthly temperature records are based on an average and half a degree is considered a substantial amount.

Charlotte typically has an April with an average temperature of around 60 degrees. This year’s April recorded an average temperature of 66 degrees, closer to the normal May temperature of 68.9° degrees.

The average temperature is determined by averaging both high and low temperatures from each day.
