Hail, strong winds likely in upcoming storm system

Share

Expect daily scattered showers and storms starting Tuesday, with rainfall potentially reaching 1-2 inches by the weekend.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Monday marked the 10th straight day without measurable rainfall in Charlotte, but that is coming to an end Tuesday.

When

Starting Tuesday and continuing through Saturday, scattered showers and storms will be possible every day. While this won’t be a washout week by any means, you’ll want to keep the umbrella handy and be Weather Alert, especially from 3 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday when storms will be most likely to develop.

An isolated severe storm is possible at times, especially during the mid- to late-afternoon hours. Scattered to numerous storms are most likely on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday and Saturday are still sitting likely for more on-and-off rain with the occasional thunderstorm.

Impacts

Rainfall totals through the weekend could reach 1 to 2 inches, which would go a long way toward helping alleviate our growing rainfall deficit. Not everyone will see rain every day, but most of the Charlotte area will get in on at least some of the action over the next several days.

As for severe weather, the risk remains low overall, but we can’t completely rule out a few stronger storms. Most of our area is under a low severe weather risk for this time period. Tornadoes are not likely at this time. Large hail, damaging wind gusts, and locally heavy rainfall are the primary threats we’ll be watching closely.

The bottom line: it’s going to feel more like spring this week—warm, muggy, and stormy at times.
