Package thefts in Davidson County connected to multi-county theft operation, detectives say

LEXINGTON, N.C. — Davidson County sheriff’s detectives arrested three people accused of being part of a multi-county package theft operation.

Detectives said they did a traffic stop Thursday on a Honda Civic in the area of Pineridge Road in Lexington. They identified individuals involved in the theft of FedEx packages, specifically, AT&T cell phones. The sheriff’s office said the thefts would happen shortly after the packages were delivered to multiple homes in the county. 

As a result, detectives learned the thefts were tied to a bigger operation across more counties – which they said is under further investigation. 

36-year-old Paula Varela, 21-year-old Jesus Aponte, and 32-year-old Franco Jeffrey all face theft charges. They are all from High Point. 

• Varela — 3 counts of conspire to commit felony larceny; 2 counts of felony larceny; attempted felony larceny
• Aponte — 3 counts of conspire to commit felony larceny; 2 counts of felony larceny; attempted felony larceny
• Jeffrey — 3 counts of conspire to commit felony larceny; 2 counts of felony larceny; attempted felony larceny

All three suspects are set to appear in Lexington court on August 27.
