REIDSVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) — A Triad high school is under review after the discovery of inadequate student athlete documentation.

According to the Rockingham County School District, they discovered that multiple student athletes at Reidsville High School had not completed all the required medical and participation eligibility documentation for the 2024-2025 athletic season.

“Specifically, the school discovered that athletes with out-of-date physicals and medical participation forms had been included on team rosters. This discovery prompted an immediate internal investigation to ensure compliance with all North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) regulations,” the school district said in a release.

The school and the district contacted the NCHSAA and worked to begin reviewing the records of all athletes to make sure that all of the teams were compliant. The district will be hiring an outside contractor to assist in reviewing these documents, and they will conduct a “personnel investigation” to “hold those responsible for this oversight accountable.”

The findings from this review and investigation will be reported to the NCHSAA, and they will “fully cooperate” with the association.

“Our priority is to uphold the highest standards of accountability and sportsmanship in our athletic programs,” Reidsville High School Principal Erica Blackwell explained. “While this situation is difficult for our school, we must adhere to NCHSAA guidelines in order to protect the safety and integrity of our student-athletes and their families.”

The district will release a report outlining any NCHSAA policy violations, how these issues will be addressed and any “planned steps to strengthen the reliability verification process,” the district says. They expect this information, and any additional follow-up information, to be released by June.

“Reidsville High School remains dedicated to supporting its student-athletes and fostering a strong foundation for future success across all sports programs,” the district says.
