GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — A local healthcare system is trying to expand its real estate footprint in the Triad.

Cone Health confirms that it has entered into a contract to purchase 2300 West Friendly Avenue from Centenary United Methodist Church.

According to the News & Record, the pastor said the church was unable sustain the cost of upkeep and maintenance for the building, citing falling attendance rates. The congregation will merge with another congregation and leave the church. The News and Record reports that the Northern Piedmont District of the Western NC Conference of the United Methodist Church is aware and assisting Centenary UMC with this process.

A Cone Health spokesperson confirmed that, while there are no immediate plans for the property, the purchase will allow Cone to combine the property with other Cone Health properties on North Elam Avenue and surrounding areas, adjacent to the Wesley Long campus.
