High of 36 on a chilly Thursday in the Triad

PIEDMONT TRIAD, N.C. (WGHP) — It’s frigid this morning with temperatures in the teens, so please protect yourself from this cold, dry air. A veil of clouds will continue to seep across our skies today, but a milder, west-southwest breeze will push temperatures into the mid-30s this afternoon.  For the first time since Sunday night, we will be above freezing!

Skies will gradually clear out overnight, and lows are going to return to the lower-20s by daybreak.

A cold front forecast to cross the state tomorrow will do little to change our sensible weather.  The air over us is so dry, we aren’t going to be able to squeeze out a drop (or flake), so aside from a burst of clouds in the forecast for the afternoon, you may not notice a front has come through.  High temperatures will rise to the lower-40s.

The warming trend continues over the weekend and into next week. We can plan to enjoy mostly sunny skies on Saturday with highs in the mid-40s, then partly cloudy skies on Sunday as the next system approaches from the west.  Highs on Sunday will be back to normal, near 50°.

Another cold front is going to pass through North Carolina without any noticeable effects on Monday.  Aside from scattered clouds, we are only expecting temperatures to hover around 50° for one day before resuming a warm-up midweek.  On Tuesday and Wednesday, high temperatures will be in the mid-50s under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies.
