Get ready for a snowy afternoon in the Piedmont Triad

(WGHP) — A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect from 1 p.m. today until 10 a.m. Saturday in the Triad.

We are expecting a cold day with highs in the mid-30s and snow moving into the Piedmont by late afternoon.

Snow will continue overnight for most counties in the FOX8 viewing area, but our southern counties will likely see a changeover to sleet and freezing rain, reducing snow totals.

Precipitation will end well before sunrise and lows will be in the lower 20s.

Total snowfall in the Triad is expected to be 2″ to 3″; in the mountains and foothills, 3″ to 5″; and in the southern Piedmont, up to 1″ with sleet and freezing rain that may add an extra 0.15″.

Temperatures will rise above freezing Saturday afternoon with partly cloudy skies which will help with the thawing process. With lows dipping into the teens and lower 20s, there will likely be refreezing to deal with Sunday and Monday mornings.  We will have sunny skies to enjoy Sunday with highs in the upper 30s, and Monday highs in the mid-40s on Monday.

The rest of the work week will be cold and sunny.  Highs Tuesday through Thursday will only make it to the mid-to-upper 30s and lows will settle to 17 Wednesday and Thursday mornings!
