A Severe Winter Storm Watch is in effect from Friday at 1 p.m. until Saturday at 10 a.m. throughout the Piedmont Triad and most of central North Carolina.

Clouds will quickly overtake our skies Friday morning with snow moving in by afternoon.  Highs will be near 34° and likely will drop as the snow begins. Snow is expected to continue into the night, eventually changing over to a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain as it ends early Saturday morning.

Total accumulation in the Triad is expected to be between 2 inches and 3 inches; in the mountains and foothills, 3 inches to 4 inches; in the southern Piedmont, and 1 inch to 2 inches with more ice accrual in Montgomery and Chatham counties.
