TOBACCOVILLE, N.C. — A deadly shooting that happened in Tobaccoville on Thursday will not result in criminal charges for the shooter, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office said that on Thursday, deputies responded to the 6700 block of Doral Drive and found 21-year-old Jarit Miguel Palacios Mayren suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was ultimately pronounced dead on scene.

After an initial investigation, deputies determined that Mayren crashed his vehicle into a culvert, which caused it to travel into the front yard of a residence on the street. An 18-year-old resident came outside after hearing the crash.

When the 18-year-old arrived outside, deputies said he saw Mayren put the vehicle in reverse and crash into a parked car. At this point, he went inside to retrieve a firearm “to protect himself and others who were still located outside.” When the resident came back outside and saw Mayren driving forward again, he fired multiple shots at Mayren and his vehicle.

Mayren died at the scene despite attempted life-saving measures from emergency responders.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office said it presented its findings to the Forsyth County District Attorney’s Office, which declined to press charges against the 18-year-old resident.
