After drizzle on Friday and round #1 of rain on Saturday, the second half of the weekend brings higher impacts.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Due to holiday travel this weekend and the highest impact from rain in awhile, the WCNC Charlotte Weather Impact Team wants you to stay Weather Aware this weekend. This is especially true on Sunday as the main front pushes through the region.
The first round of heavy rain looks to push through the Carolinas early Saturday. Expect a mostly cloudy afternoon with highs in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. Flooding isn’t a significant impact on Saturday but there will be slick spots on the roadways.
A second round arrives Sunday morning in the mountains and midday in the Piedmont with heavy rain, gusty winds, and isolated thunderstorms. Some of these storms could become strong to severe with gusts of 35-40 mph.
It’ll be a soggy weekend but an extremely wet Sunday. The highest potential for flash flooding is in the mountains with 2-3 inches of rain, the lesser the further southeast you go.
