The victim was shot several times, according to police.
ROCK HILL, S.C. — A man is facing several charges after the Rock Hill Police Department said he shot another man on Christmas Eve.
Officers said they responded to a shooting call at a home along Robinson Street near Crawford Road around 5:35 p.m. Tuesday. They found the male victim with several gunshot wounds and had him taken to a hospital for treatment. His injuries were described as serious but otherwise non-life-threatening.
Police said their investigation led them to learn the shooting unfolded during an argument between the victim and 21-year-old Semaj Malik Bernard Evans of Florence. The argument reportedly happened in the yard of the home when Evans allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the victim. Evans had left the home before officers arrived.
Evans was located nearby along Carolina Avenue and was arrested after reportedly trying to run away from officers. A gun was recovered after the chase.
Evans was taken into custody and was charged with attempted murder, along with possession of a weapon of a violent crime and unlawful carrying of a handgun. He’s also charged with two counts of discharging a firearm into a dwelling because he reportedly hit two homes during the shooting.
Note: WCNC instituted a policy in March 2021 regarding the broadcast or posting of mugshots. Â
WCNC will only air or post a mugshot if the person has been formally charged with a crime and in a few other cases. The exceptions include: If it appears the person could be a danger to themselves or others or if they are wanted by authorities; to differentiate between people with a common name; if the photos could encourage more victims to come forward. The news-editorial leadership may also decide to use a mugshot based on the severity of the crime(s) committed and/or the level of public interest in the crime and ensuing criminal proceedings.Â
