Man injured in officer-involved shooting inside McDonald's in High Point, police say

High Point police said the shooting happened at 11 a.m. Thursday.

HIGH POINT, N.C. — Police confirmed that there was an officer-involved shooting at the McDonald’s on Mall Loop Road near Eastchester Drive in High Point on Thursday. 

High Point Police Chief Curtis Cheeks III said a 50-year-old is in critical condition after the shooting happened around 11 a.m. 

Officers said he was found cutting himself with a razor inside the restaurant. Officers arrived and were made aware that the suspect had a knife. 

Shots were fired and the man was hit. He was then taken to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. 

Two officers fired their weapons and shots were fired inside the restaurant, but police cannot say how many shots were fired. 

No one else was injured. 

Cheeks said the two officers involved in the shooting are now on administrative duty. He won’t comment on if the man came at officers. 

The SBI is investigating the situation.
