John Stamos wears bald cap to show support for Dave Coulier amid cancer diagnosis

(KTLA) — John Stamos is showing his support for his former “Full House” co-star, Dave Coulier, amid his cancer diagnosis.

The actor sported a bald cap in “solidarity” with Coulier who was recently diagnosed with Stage 3 Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which is “very aggressive.”

Coulier has since shaved his head as he began chemotherapy.

Stamos shared the photos on Instagram, writing, “Nothing like throwing on a bald cap and flexing some photoshop skills to show some love and solidarity with my bro Dave Coulier.”

He then penned a heartfelt note to his friend.

“You’re handling this with so much strength and positivity—it’s inspiring. I know you’re going to get through this, and I’m proud to stand with you every step of the way. I love you,” he said in the caption.

He then called Coulier’s wife, Melissa, “the most wonderfulest” and Coulier’s “true life line.”

“This is fantastic,” wrote fellow “Full House” alum Candace Bure.

“Sending love and prayers to Dave and his family. And to you, sweet John,” wrote actress Rita Wilson.

While many praised Stamos for being there for his friend, some in the comments blasted his decision to wear a bald cap instead of shaving his head.

“God bless Dave but is this really appropriate? A bald cap is showing solidarity? You can just take your cap off and be ‘normal’ again. When people take this route they actually shave their head. I can’t help but feel that you’re using Dave’s diagnoses as a way to make yourself more likeable,” wrote one follower.

Another follower called the move a “shallow gesture.”

“Couldn’t even cut your hair off for your friend. And you made sure to post it on Instagram to get those likes too.”

“Hate to be that person but this is more insulting by putting on a bald cap than not shaving your head. A person with cancer doesn’t have a ‘cap’ they can take off,” another chimed in.

However, a fan who has battled cancer came to Stamos’ defense.

“As someone who has had cancer three times I NEVER wanted anyone to shave their head for me. I think this is great and hilarious and I’m sure Dave didn’t really want him to shave his head,” she wrote.

Fans then came to the “Fuller House” actor’s defense touting him for supporting Coulier.

“Oh, people – what’s more important? That he shave his head or that he’s actually there for him?”

“Awwww this is so cute … also, to anyone in the comments.. if Dave isn’t offended by this, you shouldn’t be either and remember .. John is an actor and may need his hair for his JOB. This should be a space filled with positivity and hope.. take the negativity elsewhere.”

Stamos and Coulier both costarred on the hit ABC sitcom “Full House” from 1987 to 1995 and reprised their characters in “Fuller House,” which premiered in 2016. The show ran for five seasons before ending in 2020.
