The Harris campaign has already raised over $81 million.
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Vice President, Kamala Harris is breaking fundraising records. Since President Biden’s big announcement, Harris’ team has raised over $81 million. Â
Carrie Eaves is a political science associate professor at Elon University. Eaves said this quick funding is a positive for Democrats.Â
“Women don’t all vote the same way, but this could particularly be energizing for them, and that large fundraising call may also suggest some excitement around again the potential for a female president,” explained Eaves.Â
Considering the election is a little over 100 days away, the Harris campaign does face certain challenges.Â
Democrat Senator, Michael Garrett of Guilford County is a big supporter of the Biden Harris campaign. Garrett said a vote for Harris will most likely be one for the same Biden policies and platforms.Â
“She is clearly the most capable, most prepared person to step in to continue to carry the mantel,” said Garrett.Â
Meanwhile, Republicans are reacting to the news. Chairman for the Guilford County Republican Party, Chris Meadows said for them, not much changes.Â
“I believe our chances are the same or better,” Meadows continued, “We’re staying on our path, our policies have not changed.”Â
Associate professor Eaves said Harris can take control of Biden’s campaign dollars. If it would have been another Democrat who stepped forward for the nomination, they would not have access to that money.Â
