Converted North Carolina Republican Tricia Cotham facing Nicole Sidman in new District 105 race

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Newly drawn NC House of Representatives District 105 will see converted Republican Tricia Cotham against Democrat Nicole Sidman.

District 105 will now include the Matthews and Mint Hill areas. Cotham, who won District 112 as a Democrat in 2023, will represent the Republican Party for District 105 in the 2024 election. (D) Jordan Lopez is running for District 112 unopposed.

On April 5, 2023, three months after starting her District 112 term, announced she was leaving the Democratic Party and registering as a Republican. Seven months after that, On Nov. 18, 2023, Cotham announced she would run in the new District 105.

Cotham’s opponent, Sidman, previously served as campaign manager for Christy Clark in 2018. Since 2021, Sidman has worked at Temple Beth El, first as a Social Justice Outreach Coordinator and currently serving as the Director of Congregational Life. 

Sidman won with 57% of the vote in March’s primary, edging out Yolanda Holmes (38%) and Terry Landsell (5%).
