CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has a new gig.
The 2015 NFL MVP is joining ESPN’s “First Take” show featuring commentators Stephen A. Smith and Molly Qerim. Newton is scheduled to make his debut this Friday for the show’s live show at Tennessee State University.
Other personalities on “First Take” include NFL great Shannon Sharpe, Chris “Mad Dog” Russo and NBA veteran Kendrick Perkins. Newton’s made a name for himself in media circles with his highly successful podcast that covers pop culture, pro sports and memories of Newton’s career in the NFL.
“Cam Newton’s addition to First Take brings an electrifying presence, enhancing our roster of top-tier personalities,” David Roberts of ESPN said in a news release. “His dynamic charisma, combined with the high-profile debates alongside Stephen A. Smith, will create compelling, must-watch television for fans.”
Newton says he’s looking forward to the opportunity to bring his passion and energy to ESPN.
“Fans can expect the same intensity I brought to the field, along with real talk, bold takes and good fun,” Newton said.
