NORTH CAROLINA, USA — Between numbers from the state and Buncombe County, there have been 110 recorded deaths in North Carolina from Helene.Â
The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office said in a Thursday afternoon press conference that there have been 72 deaths in the county so far.

It’s been nearly a week since Helene hit the Southeast as a Category 4 hurricane and left western North Carolina communities in devastation.Â
The Associated Press reported on Thursday that Helene has claimed more than 200 lives across multiple states in the southeast, and it is the deadliest hurricane to hit the U.S. mainland since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.Â
