RANDOLPH COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — The Randolph Electric Membership Cooperation has spent Thursday restoring power to over 5,000 customers on Thursday morning.

Randolph EMC says that a wall of heavy wind and rain associated with Tropical Storm Debby is caused widespread outages across Randolph, Alamance, Chatham, Moore and Montgomery counties.

“Crews are in the field and reporting several areas of damage, including multiple downed powerlines from fallen trees and at least one report of a broken pole,” said Dennis Mabe, CEO of Randolph EMC. “We expect the high wind gusts and rain accumulation to continue to affect our service area until late afternoon today,” he added

Randolph EMC says its crews will work as long as it remains safe to do so and that customers who experience an outage should report it by calling 1-877-736-2633.

There is no estimated time of restoration due to the fact the outage was caused by a storm.

You can track the outages on the Randolph EMC website.

As of 12 p.m. there are only 619 customers still without power.
