LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — Hundreds of gallons of raw sewage may have leaked into Lake Norman Thursday night, Lincoln County officials said.
A water activity advisory was issued after approximately 600 gallons of untreated sewage may have spilled into the lake from a broken low-pressure service line, the Lincoln County Health Department said. It happened in the area of Chapel Creek Drive, which is just off Saliview Drive and Webbs Chapel Church Road.
Officials are urging residents to avoid the area because it may be contaminated with fecal matter. Residents and lake users shouldn’t touch the water until samples have been tested and cleared. The Killian Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant is taking samples and putting out signs warning people of potential contamination.
No further information was released.
