2 North Carolina high school students killed in ATV crash

TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) – Two Transylvania County high school students died in an ATV crash early Sunday morning.

The crash happened around 1 a.m. Sunday on Old Wagon Road.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol said 16-year-old Layne Jones and 16-year-old Jayden Reynaldo were on a four-wheeler headed southbound when they lost control, ran off the left side of the road, and struck a tree.

Both Jones and Reynaldo died at the scene, according to troopers.

Transylvania County Schools published a letter to the community announcing the deaths of the two Rosman High School students.

“Our hearts are broken, and we are grieving together as a community,” the letter said. “The loss of such young, vibrant lives is a stark reminder of how precious life is and how deeply we are all connected.”

Jones and Reynaldo were both members of the Rosman High School football team, according to the school.
