TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A cruise ship carrying 158 passengers and crew members with norovirus docked in Florida on Saturday.
The Holland America Eurodam returned to Port Everglades after a 10-day trip around the Caribbean.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention began monitoring a norovirus outbreak on the ship on Feb. 23. The CDC report states 148 out of 2,057 passengers, or 7%, were sick. The illness affected 10 of 834 crew members, or 1.2%.
Those affected by the illness reported experiencing vomiting and diarrhea, which was determined to be caused by norovirus.
In response to the outbreak, the cruise line reported that it isolated sick passengers, upped its sanitization procedures and consulted with health officials to monitor the spread of the illness.
The most recent Holland America Line outbreak is the fifth cruise ship norovirus outbreak tracked by the CDC this year. The Holland America Rotterdam docked in Florida on Feb. 14 with 169 norovirus patients.
