This is the largest stretch to reopen since November.

NORTH CAROLINA, USA — The Blue Ridge Parkway and western North Carolina are still feeling the effects six months after Hurricane Helene.

However, there’s some good news.

The Blue Ridge Parkway has cleared and opened 15 more miles of the 200-mile roadway.

The parkway is now open between milepost 121 to milepost 136.

This is the largest stretch to reopen since November.

About three-quarters of the parkway remains closed in our state.

Superintendent Tracy Swartout said the damage to the parkway is unprecedented in its nearly 100-year history.

Work is expected to go on through the fall.

There’s no telling when the full parkway could reopen, and some areas could take years to repair. The parkway asked visitors to plan their trips to the parkway carefully and to not bypass closures.
